What is LASPAN, and when was the association founded?

LASPAN is the acronym for Language Service Providers Association, Nigeria. Its inaugural meeting was held on the 21st of January, 2017, but the assoṣiation was officially registered on the 5th of February, 2018.

How can I register on the site?

Go to the Home page and click either on “Become a Member” or “Become a Translator” or “How to join us” and you’ll be taken to the registration page.

I do not have a degree in languages or in translation. Can I still join the association?

Membership is open to all practicing translators, interpreters, editors, proofreaders, copywriters, voice over artists, etc.  Anyone involved in the language practice industry in Nigeria can become a member.

Do I need to pay to join the association?

Yes. There are stipulated fees for joining the association.

What do I stand to benefit as a member of the association?

What do I stand to benefit as a member of the association?

Membership provides opportunity to liaise and collaborate with other experienced providers, as well as requisite exposure to prospective clients locally and internationally, among several other benefits.

Do you certify translators/interpreters, or any other language service practitioner seeking certification?

No, we don’t.

Do members offer services in languages that are not spoken or used in Nigeria?

Yes. Our members offer language services in several local and international languages, be it Nigerian, African, or of any region of the world.

What is the role of the association in mediating between client and members?

One of our major objectives is to promote professionalism and ethical standards among members. We strive to encourage members to abide by these objectives. In very extreme cases of violation, we either delist the erring member(s) or blacklist such member(s) on the site.
